Auburn University mix-up prompts PNAS to lift embargo early

leave a comment »

The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) lifted the embargo early Friday on a paper about sleep, race, and heart disease, after a university jumped the gun.

From an email sent at 4:16 p.m. Eastern on Friday, some 70 hours before the embargo was scheduled to lift today at 3 p.m. Eastern:

PNAS is lifting the embargo on the following manuscript. All other manuscripts are under the scheduled embargo of Monday, July 31, 3 pm US ET.

*   Sleep and racial differences in cardiometabolic disease

PNAS tells Embargo Watch:

The corresponding author’s institution distributed a press release without the correct embargo information and published the press release ahead of the scheduled embargo.

That press release, from Auburn University, no longer seems to be available.
